Alocasia Dragon Scale Albo Variegated (Alocasia baginda ‘Dragon Scale’ Albo Variegated) is a rare collector Alocasia prized for its thick, deeply textured foliage and striking white-to-cream variegation.

Its broad, shield-shaped leaves feature raised ridges, recessed channels, deep green colouring, and bold dark veins, creating the armoured appearance that gives Dragon Scale its name. White sectors, cream marbling, and speckled variegation develop across the three-dimensional leaf surface, creating dramatic contrast against the dark foliage.

This listing is for a rooted, established and acclimated plant. Each specimen is individually photographed — the exact plant shown in the product photos is the plant you will receive.

WHY COLLECTORS LOVE IT

Dragon Scale Albo combines two highly distinctive characteristics: the heavily textured foliage of Alocasia baginda ‘Dragon Scale’ and contrasting white-to-cream variegation.

The pale colouring follows the ridges and recessed areas of the leaf, making the plant's sculptural texture especially visible. Because the variegation is naturally variable, each leaf develops its own combination of white sectors, cream marbling, speckles, and green tissue.

New leaves often emerge lighter, softer, and less textured. As they harden over the following weeks, the green deepens, the ridges become more pronounced, and the contrast between green and albo variegation becomes clearer.

DRAGON SCALE ALBO VS. SILVER DRAGON ALBO

Dragon Scale Albo has a darker green base with bold venation, producing stronger contrast between the green foliage and white or cream variegation.

Silver Dragon Albo has a lighter, silvery-grey base, giving its variegation a softer overall appearance.

Dragon Scale Albo is best suited to collectors looking for dark foliage with high-contrast white variegation.

VARIEGATION & GROWTH

Alocasia Dragon Scale Albo is compact and relatively slow growing, typically producing new leaves one at a time.

Its dragon-scale texture is a stable cultivar characteristic, while the albo variegation is naturally unpredictable. Future leaves may develop more, less, or differently patterned white and cream colouring.

Existing variegation does not guarantee the amount or placement of variegation on future leaves. Highly white sections also contain less chlorophyll and may be more susceptible to cosmetic browning than green tissue.

CARE

Light: Bright, indirect light. Strong filtered light supports healthy growth and variegation. Avoid harsh direct sunlight, which can scorch pale tissue.

Water: Allow the top few centimetres of the growing medium to begin drying before watering thoroughly. Let excess water drain completely and avoid keeping the roots constantly wet.

Humidity: Approximately 60–80% humidity with good airflow is ideal. A humidifier or grow cabinet can be especially helpful during dry Canadian winters.

Leaf care: Avoid regularly misting the foliage. Moisture can collect within the textured leaf surface and may contribute to spotting.

Temperature: Keep between approximately 18–27°C and protect from cold drafts or sudden temperature changes.

Substrate: Use a loose, airy, fast-draining aroid mix containing materials such as orchid bark, coco fibre, pumice, or perlite.

Fertilizer: Feed lightly during active spring and summer growth. Reduce or pause feeding when growth slows.

Toxicity: Like other Alocasia, this plant contains calcium oxalate crystals and should be kept away from pets and children if ingestion is possible.
