Standard Alocasia Black Velvet is known for its thick, suede-like leaves and dramatic silver venation. The pink-variegated form adds soft blush, cream, and pink colouring that creates striking contrast against the near-black foliage.

Its naturally compact growth makes it well suited to plant cabinets, shelves, desktops, and smaller indoor collections.

Every new leaf can reveal a different variegation pattern. Some leaves may develop larger pink sectors, while others show fine marbling, cream colouring, speckles, or more green tissue.

PINK VARIEGATION & GROWTH

Alocasia Black Velvet Pink is naturally slow growing and typically produces new leaves one at a time.

New foliage may emerge lighter and softer before developing deeper colour, stronger velvet texture, and more visible silver venation as the leaf hardens.

The amount and placement of pink variegation can change from leaf to leaf. Future growth may show more, less, or differently patterned pink and cream colouring.

Future variegation cannot be guaranteed. Light, plant maturity, temperature, nutrition, and overall growing conditions may influence new foliage.

Highly variegated pink or cream sections contain less chlorophyll and may be more susceptible to cosmetic browning than greener tissue.

CARE

Light: Bright, indirect light. Strong filtered light supports healthy growth and attractive variegation. Avoid harsh direct afternoon sun, which can scorch lighter pink areas.

Water: Allow the top 2–3 cm of the growing medium to begin drying before watering thoroughly. Let excess water drain completely and avoid keeping the roots constantly wet.

Humidity: Approximately 60–80% humidity with good airflow is ideal. A humidifier or grow cabinet can be especially helpful during dry Canadian winters.

Leaf care: Avoid regularly misting the velvety foliage, as moisture can remain on the textured leaf surface.

Temperature: Keep warm and stable, ideally around 18–27°C. Protect from cold drafts and prolonged temperatures below 15°C.

Substrate: Use a chunky, airy, fast-draining aroid mix containing materials such as orchid bark, perlite or pumice, and coco coir or quality potting medium.

Fertilizer: Feed lightly during active spring and summer growth. Reduce or pause feeding when growth slows.

Toxicity: Like other Alocasia, this plant contains calcium oxalate crystals and should be kept away from pets and children if ingestion is possible.
