As the plant matures, its leaves can become larger and develop the characteristic splits and fenestrations associated with Monstera deliciosa.

WHY COLLECTORS LOVE IT

Monstera Bulbasaur is best known for its distinctive camouflage-style variegation. Multiple shades of green, mint, cream, and pale yellow-green blend across the foliage, creating a layered pattern unlike the variegation of more familiar Monstera cultivars.

Some leaves may display dense speckling and marbling, while others develop broader patches or cloud-like areas of lighter colour. Every new leaf can reveal a different combination of tones and patterns.

Bulbasaur also retains the impressive mature characteristics of Monstera deliciosa. With suitable light, climbing support, and time, the plant can produce increasingly large leaves with deeper splits and interior fenestrations.

VARIEGATION & GROWTH

The variegation of Monstera Bulbasaur is naturally variable. The amount, colour, and distribution of lighter tissue may change as the plant produces new leaves.

Juvenile plants may initially show smaller leaves and simpler patterns. Variegation, leaf shape, and fenestration can become more pronounced as the plant matures under favourable growing conditions.

Future variegation cannot be guaranteed. New foliage may display more or less mint, cream, yellow-green, or dark-green colouring than the existing leaves.

Lighter variegated tissue contains less chlorophyll and may grow more slowly or become more susceptible to cosmetic browning than darker-green tissue.

BULBASAUR VS. OTHER VARIEGATED MONSTERA

Monstera Bulbasaur generally displays blended mint, cream, yellow-green, and dark-green mottling that creates a camouflage-like or mosaic pattern.

Monstera Thai Constellation typically develops cream-coloured speckling and larger marbled areas distributed across the foliage.

Monstera Albo is best known for higher-contrast white marbling and sectoral variegation against dark-green foliage.

Individual plants can vary considerably, so the photographed specimen is the most reliable representation of the plant’s current appearance.

CARE

Light: Provide bright, indirect light. Strong filtered light supports healthy growth and attractive variegation. Avoid harsh direct afternoon sunlight, which may scorch lighter areas. A grow light can be helpful during darker Canadian winters.

Water: Allow the upper 3–5 cm of substrate to begin drying before watering thoroughly. Let excess water drain completely and avoid keeping the roots continuously wet.

Humidity: Approximately 50–70% humidity with good airflow is preferred. Higher humidity can support healthy foliage, but an airy root environment remains essential.

Temperature: Keep warm and stable, ideally around 18–28°C. Protect the plant from cold drafts, air-conditioning vents, cold windows, and prolonged temperatures below 15°C.

Substrate: Use a chunky, airy, fast-draining aroid mix containing materials such as orchid bark, perlite or pumice, coco coir, and a small amount of moisture-retentive material.

Support: Provide a moss pole, wooden plank, or similar support as the plant grows. Allowing aerial roots to attach can encourage larger and more mature foliage.

Fertilizer: Feed lightly every three to four weeks during active spring and summer growth. Reduce or pause feeding when growth slows and avoid fertilizing immediately after shipping.

Acclimation: After arrival, provide stable warmth, bright indirect light, and consistent humidity. Avoid unnecessary repotting or major environmental changes while the plant adjusts.

Toxicity: Like other Monstera, this plant contains calcium oxalate crystals and should be kept away from pets and children if ingestion is possible.
