Alocasia Sarian Albo — Alocasia sarian albo variegated, Alocasia sarian variegata, Alocasia Sarian white variegated, Albo Sarian Alocasia. Philippine hybrid (A. zebrina × A. micholitziana), named for journalist Zac B. Sarian. Two decorative features: zebra-striped petioles (stable) + white-to-cream chimeric albo variegation on deeply serrated dark glossy leaves. Fast-growing floor plant — among the most vigorous variegated Alocasia in cultivation. Each leaf unique. Photographed individually. What you see is what you receive.

BOTANICAL DETAILS

Botanical name Alocasia 'Sarian' (A. zebrina × A. micholitziana) — albo variegated form
What it inherits A. zebrina: zebra-striped petioles, fast growth. A. micholitziana: deeply serrated margins, bold white venation
Variegation Chimeric — unstable; white-to-cream sectors, splashes, marbling; each leaf unique; zebra petioles stable and unaffected
Leaves Long, pointed arrowhead; dark glossy green; bold white venation; serrated undulate margins; white and cream albo sectors; zebra-striped petioles
Mature size 90–150 cm (3–5 ft); leaves 30–45 cm — floor plant, not shelf plant
Skill level Intermediate — more forgiving than jewel Alocasia

CARE REQUIREMENTS

☀️ Light Bright indirect light — supports fast growth and albo contrast. Low light stalls growth and dulls albo. No direct sun. Grow lights recommended for Canadian winters.
💧 Watering Keep consistently moist — allow top 2–4 cm to dry before rewatering. Less drought-tolerant than most Alocasia. Drain completely; never waterlogged. Reduce in fall/winter.
💦 Humidity 60–80% preferred; 55% minimum. Browning on white = humidity first. Large surface transpires rapidly — humidity more critical than compact Alocasia. Canadian winter drops to 25–40% — humidifier essential.
🌡️ Temperature 18–28°C. No cold drafts. Below 15°C — slows and may drop leaves.
🪴 Soil Well-draining aroid mix — orchid bark, perlite, coco coir. Slightly more organic content than jewel Alocasia; fast grower benefits from nutrition in the mix.
🌱 Fertiliser Half-strength balanced feed every 3–4 weeks spring/summer. None in winter or first 3–4 weeks after arrival.
🐾 Toxicity Toxic to cats, dogs, children.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What makes Sarian Albo different from standard Sarian?
Standard Sarian: dark green leaves, bold white venation, zebra petioles — no added variegation. Sarian Albo adds white-to-cream sectors and marbling. Albo is significantly rarer. Zebra petioles stable in both — not part of the albo mutation.

Is the variegation stable?
Chimeric, unstable — each leaf unique. Zebra petioles stable; albo sectors are not. Reversion uncommon.

Does it actually grow fast?
Yes — inherits A. zebrina's vigour. Produces substantial new leaves visibly through spring/summer. Clearly faster than jewel Alocasia like Melo or Maharani Albo.

Can I propagate it?
Yes — rhizome division. Albo in offsets not guaranteed to match parent; zebra petioles present in all — stable hybrid trait.
