WHY COLLECTORS LOVE IT

Alocasia Maharani is known for its compact growth and thick, highly textured foliage. Its muted grey-green leaves have a sculptural appearance that makes the plant distinctive even without variegation.

The Albo variegated form adds crisp white and cream colouring across this textured surface, creating strong contrast while highlighting the ridges and recessed areas of the leaf.

Some leaves may develop large white sectors, while others show cream marbling, splashes, speckling, or more green tissue. No two specimens develop exactly the same pattern.

Its compact size also makes Maharani Albo well suited to plant cabinets, shelves, desktops, and smaller indoor rare plant collections.

ALBO VARIEGATION & GROWTH

The white-to-cream variegation is chimeric and naturally unpredictable.

Future leaves may develop more, less, or differently distributed white colouring. Green reversion is possible, while later growth may also become more highly variegated.

Future variegation cannot be guaranteed. Light, plant maturity, temperature, nutrition, and overall growing conditions may influence new growth.

Highly variegated white areas contain less chlorophyll and may be more susceptible to cosmetic browning than greener tissue.

Alocasia Maharani Albo produces leaves sequentially and may temporarily slow its growth after shipping, repotting, or during cooler winter conditions.

CARE

Light: Bright, indirect light. Strong filtered light supports healthy growth and attractive albo contrast. Avoid harsh direct sunlight, especially on white variegated areas.

Water: Allow the top 2–3 cm of substrate to begin drying before watering thoroughly. Let excess water drain completely and avoid keeping the roots constantly wet.

Humidity: Approximately 60–80% humidity with good airflow is preferred. A humidifier or grow cabinet can be useful during dry Canadian winters.

Temperature: Keep warm and stable, ideally around 18–29°C. Protect from cold drafts, air-conditioning vents, and cold windows.

Substrate: Use a chunky, airy, fast-draining aroid mix containing materials such as orchid bark, perlite or pumice, coco coir, and a small amount of moisture-retentive material.

Fertilizer: Feed lightly during active growth with a balanced fertilizer. Reduce or pause feeding during periods of slow growth and avoid fertilizing immediately after shipping.

Acclimation: After arrival, provide stable warmth, bright indirect light, and consistent humidity. Avoid unnecessary repotting or major environmental changes while the plant adjusts.

Toxicity: Like other Alocasia, this plant contains calcium oxalate crystals and should be kept away from pets and children if ingestion is possible.
