Alocasia Amazonica Pink Variegated

Alocasia Amazonica Pink Variegated is a rare collector Alocasia prized for its dramatic dark foliage, bold ivory-white venation, sculpted margins, and blush-to-pink variegation. Often searched as a Pink Variegated African Mask Plant, it combines the distinctive appearance of Alocasia × amazonica with compact, upright growth well suited to indoor collections.

Its glossy, arrow-shaped leaves can develop soft pink marbling, splashes, or larger sectors against a deep green to near-black background. The undersides may show rich purple tones, adding even more contrast.

New leaves often emerge lighter and softer. As the foliage hardens, the dark base colour, white venation, and pink pigmentation may become more defined.

Because the variegation is naturally variable, every leaf and every specimen is unique.

Each plant is individually photographed — the exact plant shown in the product photos is the plant you will receive.

WHY COLLECTORS LOVE IT

Alocasia Amazonica is already recognized for its dramatic combination of dark foliage, bright venation, and sharply sculpted leaf edges. The pink-variegated form introduces blush and pale-pink colouring that stands out against the darker foliage.

The Thai Version sold in the collector trade has a compact, Polly-like growth habit, making it particularly suitable for plant cabinets, shelves, desktops, and smaller indoor spaces.

Each new leaf can reveal a different balance of dark green, pink, cream, and white venation, making the plant especially rewarding for collectors who enjoy unpredictable variegation.

THAI VERSION VS. US CLONE

The Thai Version is typically grown for its smaller, more compact proportions and shelf-friendly appearance.

The US Clone sold under the same general Amazonica Pink name is typically associated with larger, broader foliage and a more substantial mature appearance.

Both may display pink variegation, but their growth habit and leaf proportions can differ.

This plant is also distinct from Alocasia Polly Snowflake Pink and Alocasia Bambino Pink Variegated, which have different foliage shapes and growth characteristics.

PINK VARIEGATION & GROWTH

The pink variegation is naturally variable and unpredictable. Some leaves may develop larger pink sectors, while others show subtle marbling, speckles, or predominantly dark-green tissue.

New leaves may initially appear pale, with the pink pigmentation and dark background becoming stronger as the foliage matures.

Future variegation cannot be guaranteed. The amount and placement of pink may increase, decrease, or change from leaf to leaf.

Highly variegated areas contain less chlorophyll and may be more susceptible to cosmetic browning than greener tissue.

CARE

Light: Bright, indirect light. Strong filtered light supports healthy growth and attractive pink colouring. Avoid harsh direct afternoon sunlight, which may scorch lighter variegated areas.

Water: Allow the top 2–3 cm of substrate to begin drying before watering thoroughly. Let excess water drain completely and avoid keeping the roots continuously wet.

Humidity: Approximately 60–80% humidity with good airflow is ideal. A humidifier or grow cabinet can be helpful during dry Canadian winters.

Temperature: Keep warm and stable, ideally around 20–27°C. Protect from cold drafts and prolonged temperatures below 15°C.

Substrate: Use a chunky, airy, fast-draining aroid mix containing materials such as orchid bark, perlite or pumice, and coco coir.

Fertilizer: Feed lightly every 3–4 weeks during active spring and summer growth. Reduce or pause feeding when growth slows.

Toxicity: Like other Alocasia, this plant contains calcium oxalate crystals and should be kept away from pets and children if ingestion is possible.
